Moving Company Amsterdam

Move Now NL is a moving company based just north of Amsterdam in Oostzaan. We move households and businesses to, from and within the city, from canal-house apartments to family homes in the suburbs. Get an instant online estimate, then confirm your fixed price quote on WhatsApp.

Moving in Amsterdam is different from moving almost anywhere else in the Netherlands. Streets are narrow, many buildings are old, stairwells are steep and parking in front of the door is rarely simple. A good moving company Amsterdam customers can rely on plans for these things before the van arrives, not on the day.

We are based in Oostzaan, a short drive from the ring road and the IJ tunnels, so we reach most of Amsterdam quickly. Our crew speaks English and Dutch, which many people moving within or into the city appreciate. You can message us on WhatsApp, send photos of your rooms and stairs, and we work out the plan with you.

We work with two padded vans with tie-down straps, which suits the typical Amsterdam move: a one- or two-bedroom apartment, a student room, a small office or a few large items. We do not own lorries or a moving lift, so for very large households we will tell you honestly whether our vans are the right fit.

Moving Company Amsterdam — Move Now NL

Why Amsterdam customers choose Move Now NL

Based right next to the city

Our base in Oostzaan sits just north of Amsterdam, so travel to your address is short and a van can usually be on the road quickly.

Used to steep stairs

Narrow, winding staircases are normal in old Amsterdam buildings. We plan carrying routes with you in advance and tell you when an item will not fit through a stairwell.

Vans sized for the city

A VW Crafter and a Ford Transit manoeuvre through tight streets and over canal bridges far more easily than a large truck, and they still carry a whole apartment.

Open 24/7

Early mornings, evenings and weekends suit many Amsterdam schedules. Message us at any hour; same-day moves are possible subject to availability.

English and Dutch

Expats, students and long-time residents can all plan their move in the language they prefer, from the first message to the final handover.

Clear pricing steps

Use the instant online estimate first, then we confirm a fixed price quote on WhatsApp based on the details you give us about floors, access and items.

Moving in the districts of Amsterdam

Every part of Amsterdam has its own building types and access issues, so here is what to expect in the main districts.

Centrum and the canal belt

Historic canal houses have narrow fronts, steep stairs and often no lift. Streets along the canals are tight, bridges limit routes, and parking is scarce, so plan the loading spot carefully.

Jordaan

Small streets, little canals and many older homes with narrow staircases. Large sofas and wardrobes may need to be taken apart first. A short carry from the van to the door is common.

De Pijp

Late nineteenth-century tenement blocks with steep, narrow stairwells and busy streets. Loading near the door can be difficult during busy hours, so an early or late slot often works better.

Oud-Zuid

Wider streets and larger apartments around the Museumkwartier and Vondelpark. Some buildings have lifts, others have grand but steep staircases. Parking is regulated, so organise a reservation in good time.

Oud-West

A mix of period apartment buildings and renovated flats near Kinkerstraat and Vondelpark. Expect upper-floor walk-ups and busy through-roads, with short loading windows near many front doors.

Amsterdam-Noord

Across the IJ, with older garden-village streets in Tuindorp Oostzaan, newer homes in Buiksloterham and a lot of low-rise housing. Parking is usually easier, and it is the closest district to our base.

Oost and IJburg

Indische Buurt and Watergraafsmeer have older tenement blocks and terraced homes, while IJburg has modern apartment buildings with lifts and parking garages. Check the building's rules on moving times.

Nieuw-West

Slotervaart, Osdorp and Geuzenveld are known for post-war blocks with galleries, courtyard parking and wider streets. Many flats have lifts or fixed stairwells, which makes loading more predictable.

Practical tips for moving in Amsterdam

Arrange parking early

Parking directly in front of the door is hard in much of the city. Ask your municipality (gemeente) about a parking reservation or permit for the moving van, ideally well before moving day.

Measure stairs and doorways

Before moving into an older building, measure the stairwell, door frames and turns. If a large item cannot make it, plan for disassembly, or arrange an outside lifting service separately.

Send photos in advance

Photos of the stairs, entrance and street help us judge carrying distance and parking before we quote. The more you tell us on WhatsApp, the more accurate the fixed price quote.

Choose your time slot well

Busy shopping streets and canal roads are easier early in the morning or in the evening. Weekend moves are popular and carry a 10 percent surcharge, so book ahead when you can.

Tell your building

Apartment buildings and housing associations often have rules about lifts, hallways and moving hours. Check with your landlord or owners' association so the crew can start without delay.
